Chico, CA

Situated roughly 175 miles north of the Bay Area just off Highway 5, Chico’s beautiful and sprawling landscape is the hub of a thriving music scene and a great tour stop for any band making the hike between Northern California and Oregon. Bay Area bands looking for a quick out-of-town gig will find Chico to be the perfect nearby destination, as well. The city’s downtown area boasts an abundance of art spaces, cafes, pubs and DIY venues that are ideal for any music genre — especially punk, reggae and indie rock. In May, The Chico News & Review hosts the CAMMIES, a regional music awards event that recognizes Chico’s independent musicians. Summer gives way to Friday Night Concerts and Saturday Night in the Plaza — weekly events that fill Chico’s Downtown Plaza with live music. Chico State University is located in the heart of this energetic command post and there are always plenty of eager college students in need of a musical fix. Check www.chicolist.com for additional local resources.
