Dead Confederate

Southeast Tour, August 2008

With an eagerly awaited record finally out, we celebrate the release of Wrecking Ball with a look back at Dead Confederate’s summer tour with All the Saints. The bands took a trip down the East Coast, having started on the other side of the country in Washington.

Sasquatch Festival, George, WA

Lead guitarist Walker Howle and the Whigs’ head honcho Parker Gispert strike their best Sasquatch poses while backstage at the music festival of said name in George Wash. No surprise here — Walker wins in a landslide.

Always the stickler, manager Dawson Morris orders the band to join his brother, lead vocalist and guitarist Hardy Morris, and drummer Jason Scarboro for a scenic overlook in backstage in beautiful George.

Non-Comm Fest, Philadelphia, PA

While performing a short afternoon set at the Non- Comm festival in Philadelphia, Penn., Hardy’s silhouette is cast against the stark backdrop of the city’s industrial landscape. Earlier that day, the band recorded a session for NPR’s World Café in WXPN Studios.

Prior to a show with Atlanta’s All the Saints at the Khyber in Philadelphia, bassist Brantley Senn’s mood sours as he recalls the hair gel and Bugle Boy apparel encountered the previous night in Asbury Park, N.J.

Due to his extremely serious demeanor, keys wizard John Watkins becomes agitated when he is found midrelief in the bathroom at Chapel Hill, N.C.’s Local 506.

Van, I-40, NC

During a van ride from Chapel Hill to Asheville, N.C, Hardy takes a turn with the band’s sketchbook. No telling who the victim was on this occasion. Oh, wait — it’s a tremendous honor to be drawn by Dead Confederate.

June 6,

Barley’s, Knoxville, TN

John flexes his temper once again when he finds onions in his stromboli at Barley’s in Knoxville, Tenn. A free beer and a Doral later, he cooled off and joined the band for two amazing sets.

Multiple Nights on Tour,

Anywhere, East Coast, USA

No matter how grueling the Dead Confederate/All the Saintsspring tour was at times, members of both bands knew that they could always find solace in the kitten on Walker’s t-shirt. The band spent September in the Southeast, before moving west across Texas and Arkansas. This month, Dead Confederate will head to Wisconsin and Nebraska, up to New York and round out the month back home in the South.
