There's Americana, there's country and there's bluegrass. Invoking all three genres are San Francisco-based the Brothers Comatose. They have tapped into a healthy vein of old-fashioned roots music, making music similar to artists like Yonder Mountain String Band and Devil Makes Three. There's no pomp and circumstance with these guys. Their authenticity comes from a combination of raw energy and musical talent that easily translates into a modern hoedown where no one is left behind.

Their debut full-length album, Songs From The Stoop, features their personal brand of twang that has both a communal and personal touch. Sprinkled among foot stompin' ditties like "26 on the List," "Alley Of Oaks," and "Down to the River" are reflective violin-infused songs like "Into the Old," "Legacy" and "Church Street Blues" that give the album a nice ebb and flow. Then there are those songs that can be interpreted a thousand ways, from eerie oboe-effected "Pine Box" (an ideal soundtrack to being stranded on a skiff in the middle of a swamp) to "Swamp Jam" (a joyous ode to finding civilization once again).

In a nutshell, the Brothers Comatose have succeeded in putting out an album that brings the essence of living room, string-band jam sessions to the masses. This isn't a band to just sit back and relax to. It's time to put away your suit and tie and break out your whiskey jug because the Brother's Comatose aren't going to take no for an answer.
