| Judgement Day's newest album, Peacocks/ Pink Monsters is a spiritual experience
rummaging through the landscapes of human existence with a finished product so
heavy, it fits like a puzzle piece in the niche of experimental metal music.
This irrepressible group of musicians is comprised of Anton Patzner on
violin, Lewis Patzner on cello, and Jon Bush on drums. That's right, there is no
vocalist in this trio, and no guitar either, though the archetypal heavy
shredding that takes place on the harder tracks, especially in the first track
entitled "Cobra Strike," could fool even the most infallible ear. Peacocks/ Pink
Monsters is a concept album, rooted in an idea reminiscent of the process of the
evolution of an ancient city "whose roads have been paved over by each new
civilization that has inhabited it." Jon Bush's drums pave those roads, while
the Patzner brothers cruise down them with strings and bows.
The album is primarily improvisation based, as the band went through
tribulations in creating a cohesive written product. As a result, the passion of
that kind of free-flowing creativity shines through immensely. The general tone
travels from sorrow, to anger, to awe, but holds steady in an emotional trance
through the end.
Though evocative of albums released by metal and instrumental artists alike,
Peacocks/ Pink Monsters is not quite like anything done before. From the
intricate album art to the last note of the last track, it is infused with such
beautifully complex melodic tones that it will keep you hypnotized long after
the music stops playing. (Self Released)
